Test vs. Final Depreciation Run in SAP: What's the Difference?

In SAP, the Test Depreciation Run and Final Depreciation Run are two separate processes used for calculating and posting depreciation. The key difference between the two runs is that the Test Depreciation Run is used for testing purposes, while the Final Depreciation Run is used for actual posting of depreciation. Here is more information on each of these processes:

Test Depreciation Run: The Test Depreciation Run (T-code: AFAB) is used to simulate the depreciation calculation process for an asset, without actually posting the depreciation amounts to the asset accounts. This run is useful for testing and validating the depreciation calculations for an asset before actually posting the depreciation amounts to the asset accounts. The Test Depreciation Run allows you to correct any errors or make adjustments to the depreciation calculation before running the Final Depreciation Run.

Final Depreciation Run: The Final Depreciation Run (T-code: AFAB) is used for actual posting of depreciation to the asset accounts. Once you have validated the depreciation calculation using the Test Depreciation Run, you can use the Final Depreciation Run to post the calculated depreciation amounts to the asset accounts. The Final Depreciation Run updates the asset values in the depreciation area, and the depreciation amounts are posted to the relevant GL accounts. The Final Depreciation Run should only be run after validating the depreciation calculation through the Test Depreciation Run
